Why is Search Engine Marketing Valuable?

First, how do you measure value of your website? With so many different value metrics, it is difficult to attach an immediate number the value of search engine marketing. Depending on the nature of the website, you may be looking to educate people on a subject, sell a service or a product, or create an online community. One metric that any webmaster would agree on is the number of visitors, but not just any visitors – only visitors that are somehow qualified, i.e. they must already be interested in what your website has to offer them.

So, getting more visitors from a search engine on a text query that describes your site’s purpose is clearly a good value! Millions of users search the web on a daily basis for information, products, or services – and the top 10 or so sites that appear in the search results get majority of the traffic on the relevant search terms. Can you afford to not be in these results? If your site is not listed somewhere close to the top search engine position, then your competitor's site is! So, your potential visitors and prospects will take their attention and money to the competition.

Lets face it, the web is not going anywhere any time soon. To navigate the web, the users have no better option than to use the search engines. And it is clear that the users will continue to want to navigate the web – where else can they find so much varied easily accessible information?

So, whatever metric you use to measure your website’s success, it is difficult to overestimate the value of search engine marketing.
