Search Engine Submissions and Creating HTML Email Newsletters Fuel Backbone Media's Double-Digit Growth in First Half of 2002

Web marketing agency sees increased demand for search engine optimization, opt-in email marketing, pay-per-click advertising, and Internet public relations

BOSTON, MA - July 31, 2002 - Backbone Media (www.backbonemedia.com) today announced that increased demand for managing search engine submissions and creating HTML email newsletters has fueled the firm's double-digit growth rate in the first half of 2002. Clients also praised the Web marketing agency for helping them reach their active buyers online and profit from their investment in Internet marketing.

Stephen Turcotte, President of Backbone Media, said, "Much of our growth in the first half was driven by existing clients, who have increased their use of our Web marketing services. Several companies that started using our search engine optimization or opt-in email marketing services have asked us to create Internet public relations or pay-per-click advertising programs to boost their online traffic, leads, and sales even more."

For example, Backbone Media initially helped ETL SEMKO (www.etlsemko.com), a division of Intertek Testing Services, achieve its goal of attaining and maintaining top-10 search engine positioning for search terms that possess a high probability of delivering qualified visitors to its Web site.

Nancy B. Medas, Director of Marketing for ETL SEMKO, said, "Our sales executives have noticed the great improvement in our presence on the Web. Based on these results, we agreed to become the first client to use Backbone Media's innovative approach to optimizing our Internet public relations, as well."

Greg Jarboe, Backbone Media's VP and Chief Marketing Officer, said, "We also continued to add new customers in the first half of 2002 based on our track record of converting client goals and objectives into tangible results. At the same time, we began to form a network of strategic partners who can provide fully-integrated marketing programs that are customized to meet the specific needs of individual clients."

For example, Backbone Media landed King Fish Media (www.kingfish-media.com), which specializes in Private MediaSM Marketing Solutions, as a new customer this spring. About two weeks after deploying Backbone Media's Web marketing services, King Fish Media started getting qualified leads and has already converted one of these leads into a new client with just one follow-up call.

Cameron Brown, President of King Fish Media, said, "Based on our success after the first 60 days, we have immediate plans to implement more Backbone Media services. In addition, Backbone Media and we are starting to work together to solve a broad range of marketing challenges facing some very interesting companies."

Backbone Media (www.backbonemedia.com) provides integrated Web marketing services, including search engine optimization, opt-in email marketing, pay-per-click advertising, and Internet public relations. The Web marketing agency has been managing search engine submissions and creating HTML email newsletters since 1996. The firm's clients include: A Hundred Monkeys, International Poster Gallery, ETL SEMKO, King Fish Media, McClellan Automation Systems, Mullen, Netegrity, and PressKits.
